Tom Duggin of DTC Sports discusses the upcoming football season with Cannon County head football coach, Matt Daniel.
The Cannon County Lions won four games on the gridiron last season – the most since the 2009 season, and the same number of wins as the last seven Cannon County teams combined. Unfortunately, due to a clerical error prior to last season on a player who had transferred to the school, the Lions had to forfeit those four wins as the TSSAA ruled the player was ineligible throughout the season. Still, it’s hard to ignore the positive steps the program took in Coach Daniel’s first year on the job. Year two will feature some new faces, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, where the Lions lost QB Reece Smith, RB Tyler Bundy, WR/RB Cort Litchford, in addition to a handful of key linemen. Still, Coach Daniel is quite pleased with his returning roster and the newcomers who have added to the program. An excellent summer in the weight room and a full year of learning Coach Daniel’s system should help the Lions remain a very formidable squad this season.
